Back To School Drop-Off Mailbox For Teacher

Thursday, August 11, 2016
Bake to school time is close and what's more fun than welcoming the new school year with this adorable little drop-off mailbox for teacher? Let's make this mailbox together and stuff it with gifts or delicious goodies for your kid's teacher! It could also be used as a real drop-off box for mail, since the Esse cardstock used for this project is thick it's not a problem for storing letters.

Take a quick peek!

Mrs. Murphy was my son's Kindergarten teacher last year and sadly she will not be teaching at the same school this coming school year. So I made this and hope someday I can gift it to her. Check below for a full tutorial to create this cutie (SVG is provided!).

Directions:

Step 1: Download the svg file at the bottom of this post. Open your Silhouette designer studio and cut all the images. The total should be eight separate cut-out pieces.

Step 2: Take the two side pieces, cut the top of the curve to something as shown below.

Bend the result from Step 2 inward, fold along the dotted lines.

Step 3: Glue the other two side pieces (as shown in white cardstocks below) onto the inner part of result from Step 2:

Step 4: Take the front and back pieces (referring to the names in the svg file) and glue/connect them to the two side pieces. Tips: Glue from bottom-up.

This is how it should look like after this step.

Step 5: Apply a patterned paper over the front and back of mailbox, a regular 12 x 12 patterned paper will not be long enough so cut it into two separate pieces and glue them the same way the front and back pieces are glued in Step 4.

Step 6: Take the bottom piece to glue it to the bottom of mailbox, this keeps the mails in place.

Step 7: Take the back opening cover piece, fold along the dotted line and glue the folded part to the inside of the back opening window. Apply Velcro to snap the door/cover close.

This project requires some patience to put together all the pieces but the good thing is the machine will do the job cutting the pieces out for you! And you can make a lot of this mailboxes at once! I hope you enjoy this tutorial and love the project I share with you today! Have fun creating! - Alexia
